photo of Ava and her little brotherBy blood relation, I have one brother at Kauai’s Hindu Monastery in the Hawaiian Islands. He was the cutest baby in the world, and I have so much love for him. When a young man joins the monastery, it is looked at as though his siblings become siblings to the entire group of monks. So now, I have 22 brother monks who live and work on Kauai.

When a shift like this happens for a family, it can’t help but influence all of us. I have been nearly Hindu vegetarian for the past 4 months (I’ve had seafood meals only a handful of times, and haven’t purchased a carton of eggs since January.) I’ve had more opportunities to wear my Indian clothing, which I first purchased on a trip to India in 2006. My family has taken an interest in many of the books written by monks at the monastery.

To have a brother choose the monastic life surprised us, though at the same time, it wasn’t really all that much of a surprise. It was this little brother who effortlessly curled a spoon with the swipe of his finger, while the rest of us wished that our “psychic” efforts could do something just as amazing. He and I would read minds, and I would often call him right when he was thinking about calling me. Our family did not grow up following a certain faith, though we were spiritual, and respected various belief systems. I think that’s why it was so easy for us to celebrate his move to the monastery.

Kaui's Hindu Monastery

In March of 2013, I spent time at the monastery on Kauai, and I’d like to share my experiences with you, including an amazing piece of wisdom that was given to me by one of the Swami’s, in regard to business. It’s going to make business success and money feel so effortless. It will give you permission to relax more, and to bathe your life in beauty. If you’re looking for that, I hope you’ll join me for the July 24th, 2013 call of the Minimum Wage Gardener to International Entrepreneur teleseries.

While I come from the perspective of an outsider, and not a lifetime student of Hinduism, it is still my hope that my experiences with my brother monks bring you more wealth, happiness, and health. Enjoy!
