This morning, I was compelled to take a walk in the cold just after sunrise. It was an odd inspiration, since I never take recreational walks in the morning, but I followed it anyway. Most of the time, I wake up with an immediate need for food, and then relax in my cozy room. But today, the sun came up and cast a bright blue and purple light. The sky was glowing, and frost covered everything. I also really wanted to feel what a cold England morning feels like, since a part of me has been missing Scotland and England. It’s important to recreate the feeling of a location that I enjoy, even if I’m not in the location.
I sliced up a yam, covered it in olive oil, and left it to bake on an oven pan at 350 degrees F (for a total time of about 50 minutes since I like it crispy), and then left the house. There was a beautiful bush of still-blooming flowers with frost on the petals that I took several pictures of.
I also enjoy rescuing food from abandoned fruit trees, and found a fig that was covered in fruit. The fruit was frozen, so I only picked a few of them to bring back home and test. As expected, figs frozen on the trees don’t preserve well. The inside was beautiful when I cut it open, but there was no flavor at all.
