With the constant stimulation of email, work, stress, iPods, iPads and phones, it’s getting more difficult for many of us to get to sleep at the time that we hope. Lots of mistakes are made when people are groggy, so sleep is essential if we want to show the world our best side. It’s also great to lie down and drift into our dreams without tossing and turning.
If you eat primarily raw food, you’ll find that your sleep needs will fall much lower than the average need of 7-8 hours per night. Some people only need 5 hours per night when eating foods that are uncooked, but most people require more sleep to feel fully alert the next morning.
If you have trouble falling asleep, try these ideas:
1. Connect with the slow elegance of a Japanese tea ceremony. The first night I watched a tea ceremony, I had a dream that my childhood best friend was applying make-up on my face in the same delicate way that the tea was prepared. You’ll feel quite relaxed after watching the video.
2. Use alpha brainwave music to calm your mind. It’s meant to put you in a relaxed state, so statements you hear alongside the music will go deep into your subconscious mind. (Don’t listen to this while you’re driving though, because you just might become too relaxed.) On many nights, I have fallen asleep with John Assaraf gently telling me how great my life is.
3. Think about how wonderful your life is unfolding, and smile knowingly that all is in your favor.
Good night!
