I recently spoke with someone who shared that with their influx of new income, they were gaining extra weight.
This is a legitimate concern of many women, and I hope that by writing about it today, it unveils what could be a hidden belief system and fear that is holding you back from experiencing more wealth in your life.
Ask yourself: Are you worried about becoming overweight if you make more money?
Did you know that there are classes that teach about “diseases of the affluent?” It’s commonly taught in nutritional training programs that cultures with more wealth and easy access to processed foods are also the cultures that experience more disease and excess weight. Author Gay Hendricks has called this “prosperity-induced padding.” No wonder some of us worry that our bodies will change when our income changes! We see the story that more money = more junk food = more weight and ill health.
Even though weight gain in wealthier cultures is quite common, it does not have to unfold for you like that. Your wealth does not need to lead to any physical burden. It doesn’t have to lead to weight gain, exhaustion, stress, heart attack, and so many other physical ailments.
Sure, you could start eating at restaurants every day, and choosing the overly processed, high-calorie foods that lead to excess pounds and a weakened immune system.
Or, with your growing income, you could purchase some of the most nutritious ingredients on the planet. You can choose the food that will support the longevity and energy of your body. It could be fresh juice, instead of a $5 blended coffee drink. You can opt for organic meals at a local restaurant, instead of heavy portion sizes at a chain of diners.
Of course, today I’m not here to be your weight loss coach. (I’ll leave that to Jessica at http://www.jessicaprocini.com/.)
But I am here to support you in creating a richer life for yourself.
As you create more money, keep this in mind:
Money will amplify habits and tendencies that you already have. You can then choose to keep or change those habits.
This means that if you already have eating or self-care habits that could be harmful to your body, they may be amplified by excess money. Luckily, once you become aware of your habits, you can choose to change them.
And remember, no matter how quickly your income grows, your finances don’t have to dictate how you treat your beautiful body. Your extra income can support your radiant health and happiness, and making more money does not necessarily mean that you will weigh more. If you’ve ever had that fear, it’s time to let it go, and then get out there and share your business with the world.
