A little while back, there was an event that I didn’t let myself go to. Many of my colleagues and friends were going, along with authors and teachers who I admired. This event wasn’t even in the state that I live in, though I happened to be in the exact state and city where the event was taking place, at the exact right time.
It would have been easy to go, but I had excuses. I was going to be too tired. I didn’t want to pay for it. I thought it would overwhelm me.
The morning after, I scanned through facebook photos, and paused at a photo of one of my lovely colleagues, who was standing between 2 authors and mentors who I’ve admired for years.
I was excited for her, yet I also felt jealous and heartbroken.
I felt like I should have been there. I should have been mingling with those same teachers and authors.
