How to Turn A Stranger Into A Paying Client in 10 Days

Back when I was just starting my business, I would often meet total strangers who would become paying clients within about 10 days from the time we first met. It was something that would happen over and over again, quite to my delight. Then I realized that for many entrepreneurs, that time between meeting a person and having them hire you is much longer. It doesn’t actually have to be so long, and I’m excited to share with you one of many tips that could easily lead to strangers saying yes to working with you almost immediately.

Here is my #1 TIP to turn a total stranger into a paying client in 10 days:
Always ask new people that you meet to join you in a  conversation.

Any strangers that you are intuitively drawn to are (as Florence Scovel Shinn often says), “a golden link in your chain of good.” If you are teaching a class and meet someone new, invite them to a consultation. If you meet someone at an open house or networking event, plan to meet and learn more about each other over tea or lunch.

Depending on the circumstances, your conversation with this new person may or may not be an official “sales conversation,” but that doesn’t really matter. Sometimes a tea date will lead to a great new opportunity for your business. The person sitting across from you may know someone who should hire you, they may connect you with a speaking opportunity, or they themselves may be your very next client!
